Monteverde, Costa Rica – It’s always a perk to live across the street from a bakery, in this case, Stella’s Bakery & Coffee Shop. To be honest, their pastries are not that great, and the sandwiches seem overpriced. But they have a giant window looking out back at a lovely garden. And their bird feeder regularly attracts a wide array of colorful tanagers and an emerald toucanet.
Give my kids something sweet from the case and plant them in front of that window and the grown-ups can actually enjoy a cup of coffee and look at birds for a half an hour. Stella’s, I will miss you.
