North Point Park

Cambridge, Massachusetts – I underestimated how hot it was when we left the house this morning. We made an outing to my favorite park, North Point Park in Cambridge, to scoot along the river and watch the trains going in and out of North Station.

North Point Park is a pretty awesome park in its own rite, thanks to three different kinds of climbing structures (for different age groups), a big sprinkler splash pad and expansive city views. Outside the playground area, pathways wind their way around the riverside park, which is beautifully landscaped and rife with bird life. (Last time we were here we saw red-wing blackbirds.)

As of last year, there is also a pedestrian bridge that goes over the train tracks and into Charlestown. So, train spotting is prime.
This is also where the Duck Boats go in and out of the water. Helicopters often land at Mass General nearby. And sometimes the railroad bridges are raised to let the boats go through. It’s a transportation bonanza.
Anyway, the boys were having a ball scooting around the park and watching the trains, but it was HOT. As I said, I had totally underestimated the temperature in the sun, and they were wearing long pants and long-sleeve shirts.
Slowly but surely, one clothing item at a time, they eventually stripped down and were scooting through the sprinklers. Oh, to be three again.
