North Hill, Anguilla – Anguilla is a slim eel-shaped island that is just across the channel from St Martin. This is my last stop on this paradisical research trip, updating the Lonely Planet guide to the Caribbean Islands. If you are dreaming of the ultimate Caribbean vacation, lounging on endless shimmering beaches with tropical cocktail in hand and waves lapping at your toes, I think I have found the place. Anguilla is tiny – barely over 100 sq km – with a disproportionate share of delicious sandy shorelines. It lives up to its enticing marketing slogan: Tranquility Wrapped in Blue.
Public service announcement: Anguilla is a former British island, and you know what that means. Don’t forget to drive on the left!
