Boston’s Best Cycling Routes

This spring I have been busy updating Lonely Planet’s Boston city guide, as well as the Massachusetts chapters for Lonely Planet’s New England (both new editions forthcoming in 2025). LP has taken some excerpts from the Boston guide to create a somewhat sloppy article on Boston’s best cycling routes. It does not even include my personal favorite (the Charles River Loop, pictured below). But there are some good suggestions here.

“In recent years, Boston has made vast improvements in its infrastructure for cyclists, including painting miles of bicycle lanes and implementing an excellent bike-share program. Local drivers are used to sharing the roads with their two-wheeled friends, but cyclists should always obey traffic rules and ride defensively. Explore Boston by bike with this guide to bicycle hire, riding tips and Boston’s best cycling routes.” Read more at Lonely Planet…
