Sitka, Alaska – We made it to our last stop, Sitka, the capital of Russian America. Here, more than anywhere, Alaska’s Russian history and heritage are on display. It makes sense that this is where most of our story in The Last Stand of the Raven Clan takes place.
This very prominent Tlingit totem stands in Totem Square, in the center of Sitka. Note the double-headed eagle (symbol of the Russian Empire).
And this is the view from Castle Hill, site of the Russian Governor’s mansion after the Battle of 1804. From here, Governor Baranov enjoyed a lovely view of the surrounding area, including the Three Sisters Mountains. St Michael’s Orthodox Cathedral was originally built in 1848.
