Worcester, Mass – I read with skepticism and curiosity about the revival taking place in Worcester. Apparently this gritty city is currently one of the hottest spots in the Commonwealth, thanks to a revitalization of the old Canal District. And the centerpiece is the new Polar Park, home of the minor-league Worcester Red Sox, fondly known as the Woo Sox, woot woot! We often get Red Sox tickets for Daddio for Father’s Day, but this year we got him Woo Sox tickets so we could see what all the hype is about.
Even before we got out of our car, we knew we were not at Fenway Park. Parking was $10. Total. For the entire night. And when we exited the parking garage, there was an electric shuttle waiting to give us a lift to the baseball park. The friendly driver rattled off fun facts about the new park for the duration of the ride, then let us off at the front entrance, where we waltzed in without a minute’s wait. Inside, there was a live band playing music, games for kids, and a wide variety of eating options. Our seats (which cost $25) were in the 18th row, right behind the third-base dugout. It was like some sort of alternative reality.
Plus the winning team was… the Woo Sox, woot woot. And there were fireworks after the game. Baseball doesn’t get much better than this. We will be back!
