Have Twins, Will Travel

Maya at the MFA

Boston, Massachusetts – After our trip to Tulum, Mexico, we went went in search of the Maya at the MFA. Success: we discovered these evocative ceramics depicting various gods and monsters. Nearby, an interactive screen allowed the twins to examine the carvings up close and read about what they are depicting (including the famous legend of the Hero Twins). Add that to my list of recommendations at the MFA for Kids.

We saw plenty of ruins but few artifacts in Mexico. And the paintings and stelae (rock carvings) that we did see were in poor condition and difficult to decipher. Apparently, most of the good stuff is on display in the Museo Maya de Cancun, which sounds amazing, but we couldn’t stomach a visit to the hotel zone.
