Miravalles, Costa Rica – We are hunkered down at Colinas del Miravalles Hotel, on the flanks of the steaming Miravalles Volcano. We are sucking down batidos and soaking in thermal pools. We are happy.
This picture of contentment belies the torrential downpour that we hiked through this morning. We hiked to some waterfalls, but it felt like we were hiking through some waterfalls.
We recovered with a soak at Las Hornillas Volcano Hot Springs. But it was raining so hard and so steady that we did not even get to explore the live crater that is also on site. We just sat in the comfort of our hot tub and watched from afar as the steam wafted up from the crater. So today’s outing was a bit of a bust. Alas, it is the rainy season in the rain forest, so we’re bound to get rained on once in a while.
And now we’re here, and it’s not raining. And we’re not complaining.
